BDS (Bachelor of dental surgery) is the professional undergraduate degree programme in the dental field. The duration of the course is five years including one year of rotary internship.

Internship Programme
After completing final year BDS every student has to complete one year of rotary internship programme. In this one year programme total passed students are divided into different groups and each group is posted in different dental department for a duration of a month or more. In those postings every student has to treat the patients who come for their respective treatment. This is the programme where student learn the proper clinical aspect of dentistry. This is the best programme where students can expose themselves to the extreme of their clinical practice. Overall this is the year frome where you can treat yourself as a professional dentist.
Registraion Process
After completing BDS every dentist has to registered themselves from state dental council for their clinical practice
Documents Required
- Residential address proof
- Passport size photograph
- Class 10th and 12th certificate
- Marksheets of all BDS year
- Internship completion certificate
- Provisional degree certificate
Once ready with all documents you have to visit either state website portal or directly in the council depending on each state council availability option.
They will charge you the registration fees which is completely depends on state council. After getting everything verified you will get your registration certificate (validity depends on council).
Each state has different norms but overall the procedure is almost same.
Career scope
As a professional dentist one can work in both the government or the private sectors.
In the government sector they can work in Government hospital, Government colleges, Defence service, Indian Railway, or any state govt job. In the private sector they can work in any private hospitals,Private colleges, Private clinics, Pharmaceutical companies, Dental product manufacturers. Including these they can also run their own clinic.
